“Not all teachers do their best”

Sir Michael Wilshaw raises the issue of poor performance management at the Festival of Education 2018. Not all teachers deliver outstanding lessons every time and we all have “off days” but a lack of consistent performance can often also be due to lack of communication. Leaders need to reiterate expectations, be seen to lead and delegate appropriately. Much of the solution is in having clear performance management processes and we suggest that much of school improvement lies in having robust HR approaches.
